A gem of swash'buckling adventure, and fun. a+ - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
Again I must say that some of the critics are way off on this one! What a great movie. For the life of me I do not know why these insatiable morons who we entrust to be enlightened, are so insensible. They need to be negative to be cleaver. They are worse than Wall Street analysts...You trust the opposite of what they say. This high-seas, fast-action pirate movie was creative, original, visually spectacular, well-written and directed, humorous, and a great deal of fun. No doubt, it will be a thrill ride at Disney World. The characters in this movie are well developed, and likable. Depp plays a great roll as an over-the-edge pirate who has been off his Prozac for quite a while. Bloom is great as a self-righteous blacksmith who can not fight the pirate blood or destiny running through his veins. Knightley not only brightens up the screen with her energy and radiance, she adds the romance that every good pirate story needs. As for Rush, his portrayal of a cursed pirate is witty and spirited. The story line of curse treasure that passes the curse on all who tries to possess it, falls right in line with the spirit and excitement of any good pirate tale. Though the story may not be original, the visual effects most certainly were. The story lends a great back-drop to some spectacular special effects that any kid and grown-up kid will find great! This move does not make much use of foul language or very graphic violence. However, there is violence, but it borders more on cartoonish than gruesome. Therefore, kids 12 and up should find this a fun and exciting summer escape. ChicagoVegas Jack
