Very entertaining for summer - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
In the wake of disappointing films, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl is a sigh of relief. Anybody with low expectations will be alleviated. The film is rated PG-13 due to the film's violence and spookiness, but never wanders outside the borders of inappropriateness. If you are looking for a fun-filled night with the family and you have already viewed Finding Nemo, I suggest your next stop be Pirates of the Caribbean.
Critics must admit they were wrong - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
I don't think this movie was great simply because it surpassed my expectations, but because it really had great acting, an excellent story (this is despite the fact that it is based on a Disneyland ride, but even so, it's a nice change of pace from Universal's lackluster attempts at drawing visitors by creating the latest extravaganza based on their regular summer flop), and stunning visuals. I'm planning on seeing it again...this time with the one that I love :)
Wonderful story to tell - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
I went to see Pirates of the Caribbean Last night with my nephew and niece before the crowds and I really enjoyed the beginning to the end, I love the movies but this one really had me stuck to my seat good for Disney to go out for the adult viewers with kids inside them. Hope to see more Action movies like this one. Everyone in the AMC theatre (full Theatre) clapped and few of us got out of our seats. GREAT JOB TO THE WHOLE CAST!!!!!!!!!! There costumes and screen scenes are great and overall not just another silly movie. I'm going to see it again. Definetaly a Award Winner!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anything with orlando bloom is great - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
I think it was really good and I really loved the acting(OB) I loved the ride and I think the movie was just a great take from that. Melissa
Arr the best ship on the seven seas! - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
How many ways can you spell, Wow?
There is bountiful booty to found in this keeper!
Cap'n Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) be Pyrate King in me logue books.
A wonderful film, fabulous locations, GREAT SHIPS, and lots of swashbuckling action.
It doesn't smell of Disney at all!
It's worth the DVD Director's cut, It's worth watching a hundred times over and dare I say the sequels will no doubt be better?
How can it get better?
I think that now that Orlando Bloom is "seasoned" having done a great role in KINGDOM OF HEAVEN, he might actually pull off some amazing stunts in the sequel. In this first one, he is just getting his feet wet. I could actually see an improvement in his acting during his starring role in KOH and have no doubts that he will be Cap'n Jack Sparrow's trusty side kick in the next two Pirate of the Caribbean sequels.
If you haven't seen this flick yet, then what are you waiting for?
Beware of that monkey, matie.. ye either love him or hate 'im, but is definitely a boon for this story.
What the hell are those critics thinking? - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
i seriously dont understand how those critics people think, but one thing for sure, that they are not always right, and they are not the dominant opinions! so we viewers RULE! this movie is great, funny as hell. i think most people would agree with me!

This is a must see! - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
Admittedly, when I first heard about this movie, I only wanted to see it for the men in it. As soon as the first 5 minutes of the movie began, I was already hooked. The whole 2 hours and 41 minutes flew by like 10 seconds. I was actually sad when the movie had to come to and end. I highly recommend this movie to everyone! It's a must see!
A pirate's life for me - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
"Pirate's of the Carribean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" plays out like the classic Disney World ride. You can almost smell the salt of the sea. The swashbuckling pirate genre is severely underused in film these days. The story is rather inventive, yet at times slight hackneyed. Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow, or as he would prefer Captain Jack Sparrow, swaggers around the beautiful Carribean setting further proving his acting capabilities. The film has the action and adventure of "Cutthroat Island" and the heart and lighthearted motif that grounded "Hook". All in all, "Pirates of the Carribean" is an entertaining, fun time at the movies.
In his hands - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
Johnny Depp. And thats it, thats almost all that needs to be said! Let me explain- The movie revolved souly in his palm and he made it magical. With his quirky smile and lazy attitude he made the audience want more. I found this to be a wonderful and humurous adventure, with amazing visuals and a clever script. This is a movie you'll be sorry you missed! An amazing A+ movie, to the critics-don't take your bad day out on a great movie!

One of the best films ever made!!!!!! - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
I cant wait for the sequel it's gonna be great i know it. The First One Was so GOOD i dont know how they could top it but i hope they do.
More fun than a bottle of rum! - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
Well Disney has definitely gotten their magic back! They started with the ride at their theme parks which I absolutely love. The ride can take you, if only for a few minutes into the cavalier world of a sea plunderer. But add a little Disney Magic and poof, you have not only a great spinoff, but also an incredibly entertaining and witty pirate movie. Now that takes magic! They left out none of the ingredients to make this an authentic pirate movie. From the bottles of rum, booty, and a boatful of pirates missing all types of body parts this movie brings out everything about pirates that we love so much. They definitely add a whole lot more than the cliche pirate elements though. As a genuine pirate flick that doesn?t take itself too seriously, it generates the same type of appeal that the actual ride does. Its not too dark or serious, just a lot of fun. Probably the most delightful aspect of this movie was the acting which kind of makes up for the thinning plot that drags on near the end. Capt. Jack Sparrow is quite a con man and swindler of a pirate that bounces around from situation to situation getting through only by luck most of the time, but from the very first time you see him, you cant help but love his character. He still has the rogue, maverick air that any good pirate should have. Sparrow played by Depp makes the coolest and most engaging pirate ever. Seriously, once you see the movie, you will know what a delight Johnny Depp?s character is to watch. The love story between Orlando Bloom as an unexperienced and idealistic sword maker and Keira Knightley as the damsel in distress help to lay the plot, but do not drown out the story with mushy stuff. The story pretty much works this way: girl (Knightley) who has known boy(Bloom) since childhood gets kindnapped by pirates who are plagued by an ancient curse. Knightley?s character gets rescued by Bloom with a lot of help from Capt. Sparrow (Depp). Adventures ensue. This movie will definitely provide great entertainment for a variety of audiences. Young and old will enjoy if you are in the mood to see a movie that is mostly for entertainment, not a movie that will deeply touch your soul. The violence and some sexual situations are probably not suitable for younger viewers. The movie actually copies the ride in several scenes. Most recognizably is pirates in the brig waving a bone at the dog with keys in mouth. The writers definitely had fun with that. If you are the type of person that loved the ride, then you will most definitely be a fan of the movie. I absolutely loved it, and will probably buy it when it comes out on DVD.

The best movie of 2003 - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
The first 6 months of 2003 have been a let down when it comes to the movie scene, but finally a movie has come along that took my breath away. Pirates of the Carribean is an absoulutely amazing movie, and after seeing a late night screening of it, I'm convinced this is Johnny Depp's best preformance to date. He was born to play the role of Jack Sparrow and his interpretation of the character is brilliant. Orlando Bloom is amazing in this movie, not just because he's good looking, but that man can act. The script was well written, and it's very nice to see a lead female character that can take care of herself and at the same time play the damsal in distress, but only if she wants to. The movie brought just the right mix of witty humour, high seas adventure, and romance to make it a fun movie to watch over and over again. Once again the critics, or should I say the overblown windbags, are wrong and honestly don't know what they're talking about. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone, but parents with children under 8 should be warned that there are a few "scary" moments.
Came with bloom, left with depp - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
Being the HUGE Orli Bloom fan that I am, I mainly went to this movie because of him, but I was blown away by Johnny Depp's Performance. Amazing job done by the actors, and those who joined them.
Greatest summer movie, nonstop action, great story - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
Great story, awesome graphics, great visual effects, Best movie of the summer. This movie keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time. Not only was it action packed, but also had a lot of comedy in it as well. The graphics in my opinion were oustanding. Great acting, i can not find flaw about this movie. So what are you waiting for? GO BUY TICKETS!

Hahaterrificterrifichaha - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
On the whole, the movie was without a doubt absolutely fantastic. The acting, the ability of the actors to reach into and create the depths of each character was tremendous and made up tenfold for such silly plot. Johnny Depp in particular took piracy to a whole new level. [And of course we all know that he and Orlando Bloom are gorgeous.] There are moments of shock and jaw-dropping awe, times of eye-opening (and/or eye-closing depending on the extent of) terror, and there are places in the movie where one can't help but double over from laughing so hard. On the real, I must have jumped up and down in my seat at least twenty times during the movie, I pointed at the screen and gasped in shock, and I pulled my knees to my chest and dared not look at some parts. But I can't even tell you how many times I sighed during the movie. It was beautiful. It was a fascinating and awesome and excitingly wildly hilarious movie.
Fun and memorable - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
Pirates of the Caribbean is a movie that will glue you to your seats and charm you with every single clip!!!
It's a must see and must own!!!
Finally - amovie to truly enjoy!!!! - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
It was time for Hollywood to realize that Errol Flynn was no dummy. Pirate movies have a built in venue for action, adventure, beautiful scenery and good looking men. This movie brings it all to life in a great new way. Depp was a maestro at playing his character to the scene involved. He was fun & funny as he used all elements to his advantage. The sword fight w/ Bloom was especially entertaining. Bloom (a real cutie) brought a warm quality to the man who rises above his own expectations. Rush and Knightly round out a brilliant cast. The special effects were amazing as the pirates drifted in and out of the full moon light. And the story was so tightly woven that there was never a moment that I was not on the edge of my seat. The audience cheered through out the film...and we all left with a great feeling. There should be more movies like this one - one worth the price of admission. Thanks Disney!!!!

Pirates - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
Ok. . . I have to admit a couple of months ago when I heard about this movie and that Orlando Bloom was in it I wanted to see it for that sole reason-Orlando. After I saw the previews for it on TV I realized that it actually looked like a decent movie. I was wowed when I saw this movie. It was great, the actors, the direction, everything. Go see this move.
Johnny depp - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
The king of this film. He does an outstanding job of playing the campy ruffian (Secret hottie!). When all the girls cheered for orlando bloom, i cheered for Johnny Depp! he def made this movie. the visuals are not overdone AT ALL, the casting was obviously well thought out because everyone fits their roles. this is def the movie of the summer. its fun, dramatic, funny, and action-packed. okay, so im being redundant, but Johnny Depp will astound you. hey, if i had bit of rum with johnny depp...i'll stop there. ;) GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!!!!
Hilarious--through and through - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
Through all the mediocre sequels this summer (Legally Blonde 2 and Charlies Angels 2) finally came a true summer blockbuster. Although the trailer may seem drab or uncaptivating, the movie far better that what its trailer portrayed (as is the case with any good movie). Hilarious all the way thorugh but not in a slapstick way. The humor was well played especially by that of Johnny Depp who seemed to bring the movie to life. Morever the special effects of this movie weren't too shabby either. Humans seamlessly turned into skeletons and visa versa. Great movie all the way until the end--a must see for this summer.

D - for dumb humor - Wedding Crashers Reviews
I am simply let down everytime I get talked into going to an american made comedy. Who's rating these comedy movies... post pubescent boys and girls? I guess if you think bare breasted women, stupid cliches' and just plain dumb writing is funny... more power to you. I'll stick to the foreign comedies, until Hollywood can produce something more funny than this type of garbage.

An instant classic! - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
Easily the best and most enjoyable movie in recent memory. This move will deserve the name "blockbuster" and will probably cause ripples throughout the movie industry. It will become the standard that every pirate movie from now on will be measured against Go see it now! The word of mouth on this show will be incredible and shows may begin to sell-out. It belongs in the same class as the first Star Wars Movie, Raiders of The Lost Arc, and Jaws. And just like those movies, the critics have again missed the mark. I think most of them came in expecting to write witty and sarcastic reviews that would make them look very clever. I mean this was a Pirate Movie, made by Disney, based on a theme park ride, and produced by Jerry Bruckhiemer! Imagine their surprise when the movie was exciting, well directed, with actors who kept the illusion real. The critics were left to look for something to criticise or be forced to become part of the masses. So, they gave it B's and said silly things like it was too long or their were too many fight scenes or the characters were too narrow. You could have said the same thing about Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Arc, and Jaws. Years from now people will still be watching this move at home long after all the critics have been forgotten.
This film really caught me by supprise - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
I have to make a confession, I usually don't like Disney Pictures' movies very much. In the past, I've found them to be weak in story and plot, and generally off the mark. I went to this movie last night with my sister thinking, "ok, I'll sit through this and have fun, but I'm not expecting anything great." Boy, was I in for a supprise. Within the first ten minutes of the film I couldn't wait to go see it again! It had awesome costuming, superb action sequences, a wonderful pace, and just the right amount of tongue in cheek humor to really keep you on the edge of your seat for the entire film. Even the requisite "love interest" segments of the film were well tempered and not too sappy. During most films I sometimes feel like the boy in The Princess Bride movie: "Again, with the kissing? ecch..." but fortunately the Pirates of the Caribbean managed to keep it balanced to just the right degree so that you knew why the story was going the way it did, but didn't make you sit through any uncessary makeout sessions. I can't express how fun this movie is and how difficult it is for me to sit here and write this review instead of running back over to the theater for another viewing! This is one movie that is definately in my Top 5 Movies to Have on a Desert Island list.
What "pirates of the caribbean" was really like... - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
The critics can say whatever they please, but the fans are the only ones who count! I absolutely adored this movie- everything from yes, Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom to the visual effects to the costumes! Each and every detail was payed close attention to by the magical moviemakers as well as the actors. "Pirates..." has something for everyone! I gave it an overall grade of an "A+" because it deserves NOTHING LESS!!! :)

Critics, walk the plank! - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
They were wrong about the Italian Job and they are wrong about Pirates of the Caribbean! It is action-packed, funny, and a classic. Despite the movie's length, it never gets boring or repetitive. The story flows well and Johnny Depp plays a superb pirate. Don't believe the critics, go see this movie!
What a blast! - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
A great movie. Roger Ebert thought it was boring (not enough deep emotional turmoil for ol' Rog, I guess), so that means we'll all like it! I saw it in a sold-out theatre and heard applause and cheers throughout the show. Grab a soft drink and some popcorn, sit back and enjoy! I can't wait to see the revenue numbers for this one!
Once again proving that critics are idiots.... - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
This movie is one that you are definitley going to want to go watch while its on the 'big screen,' but having said that, also one that you are going to love and want to buy as soon as it is out on DVD/VHS. Not only is this movie visually spectacular, it has the other elements of a movie down just as well, if not better. The performances by both Johnny Depp - as a very quirky, unpredictable pirate- & Orlando Bloom - a heroic blacksmith who has fallen for a wealthy man's daughter- are outstanding, and give the lines in the script the fire the movie deserves, as well as the unexpectedly, but pleasantly frequent humor. This story will captivate you from the first eery minute, to its riveting, suspenseful end. The only thing I could possibly say badly of this movie is the time factor; it is over 2 and 1/2 hrs in length. I think perhaps certain parts of the movie could have been left out for the sake of time, but it is a mute point when looking at the greatness of the final draft. See this movie, you will not be dissapointed.

Critics are stupid. - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
Seriously, the critics that reviewed this movie are complete morons. I haven't come out of a movie as impressed as I was after PoC for a LONG time. Spot on acting. Johnny Depp is so perfect in his role, as is everyone else (but Johnny Depp especially). The comedy and action were blended perfectly. Not once did I say "Oh, please" to anything in the movie. It was a clever, thrilling actioner that deserves SO much more credit than these so called "critics" gave it. The special effects were simply wonderful. The battles with the skeleton crew were astoundingly flawless looking and well coodinated. Nothing stupid, or cartoonish. Like I said, I haven't been this impressed by a movie in a long time, and I don't think I'm going to be for a long time. Bottom line, I thought it was going to be poor to average because it was made by Disney, but instead they really pulled a great movie out of their asses. Simply marvelous. Johnny Depp rocked my face off.
Avast ye!!!!! - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
The movie is a landmark Disney film being the only actual Disney film with a PG-13 rating. When I heard Disney was making movie's based of the theme park rides they have after seeing the one they did with the Bears I thought, "here comes an end to one of the crappiest summers for movies ever, and they manage to make it worse." (with the exception of T3). BOY WAS I WRONG! this movie has brilliant acting through the entire cast, and epic sized battle sequences with none other then zombie pirates themselves. As usual Disney does a great job with color as well, the orange skin against the blue sky feels like you can feel the sun sometimes, and if you look hard it has some things in the movie that are in the actual ride at Disneyland!
Ahoy mateys! naysayers will be walkin' the plank! - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
Ye will miss a fine film if ye listens to these scallywag critics. Aye! All hope abandon ye who abides the cowardly swabs! For ye too will walk the plank off the poop deck! Argh! Seriously folks...I enjoyed Pirates, from the acting & cinematography to the music & plot, and especially the music!...Aye! It's a fun, entertaining movie! Each actor does a fine job in his/her perspective roles, especially Bloom, Rush, and Depp. The plot is fine too given the fact that it's completely made up; an afterthought of the Disneyland ride. And the humorous, witty touch is perfect for this type of movie. Excellent special effects and the photography is crisp and colorful. Pirates is a good feature film & it's not too "Disney-ish" either, which is a good thing. By the way! ChicagoVegasJack liked Pirates even more than I and has posted an excellent review...Aye! Are ye up to snuff? Well then, feast yer eyes on Pirates of the Caribbean and get yer pirate booty! Argh!

Bloody brilliant!! - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
I have lost count of the number of times I have gone on the "Pirates of the Caribbean" ride at Disneyland. I still remember the first time when I was only 4 years old. I have gone to Disneyland at least 3 times a year since then and you always have to ride it at least twice. I was worried at how hokey this movie might have been, but I was blown away! The critics must just be bitter people, because I had so much fun I didn't even notice how long the movie was! I was amazed at how much of the ride they were able to incorporate and still have a great story! Geoffrey Rush had so many lines taken directly from the ride. And Johnny Depp was hysterical! Don't think about it, JUST GO SEE IT!
Shame on the critics yet again. - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
This was a fantastic movie one that the whole family can go to. We took our 6 kids and were never offended by the dialogue or situations in the film not once !! The critics need a reality check and stop giving high ratings to movies that contain sexual innuendo and trashy cheap dialogue. This movie was action packed, funny, scary, and full of wonderful cinematography. It was refreshing to watch this adventure with my kids. We have been talking about it for the last 24 hours. To the critics, shame on you for this movie will prove you wrong yet again. Disney has a hit on there hands here. Dave Mitton
The critics need to learn something about fun! - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
I saw this film when it was only 90% completed and it blew my socks off even then! Anyone who enjoys action adventure films will adore this movie. Johnny Depp is absolutely adorable...a total riot! I haven't loved him this much in a movie since "Sleepy Hollow". Orlando and Kiera are wonderfully fresh and totally lovable, and Geoffrey Rush is breathtakingly nasty! The lesser stars are also great additions to the mix, giving the film a jaunty and sometimes slightly manic air. Add to that the fact that the visual effects are excellent, and the soundtrack is a gem and that makes this is one of the most appealing films I've seen yet this year. A must see, for ALL ages! At a bit over two hours in length, the movie is a rolicking romp, filled with beautiful scenery and haunting direction. When you're having this much fun, who WANTS it to end!? The critics who gave this movie anything less than an "A" need to take a long walk off a very short gang-plank!!!!

Absolutely wonderful! critics go home! - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
My kids dragged me to this movie, and a pirate movie with ol' Scissorhands was the last thing this 45-year-old Mom wanted to see. But this movie won me over from the very beginning and all the way through to the end. One of my sons was at camp when we went to see it; and I can't believe this, but I'm willing to take him and see it again! And I thought Johnny Depp was so likable he was delicious. I agree with the talk of him getting an Academy Award for this, he was that good. (If they give out that award for a pirate movie. *smile*) Anyway, this is without a doubt the best movie I've seen so far this summer, and I've seen quite a few. Kudos to all involved! P.S. I'm really wondering if the critics actually saw the movie.
Omg!!! - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
Is there anything else to say?? This movie was incredible! Tons of action, great plot line, the acting was great and Johnny Depp was HILARIOUS!! not to mention gorgeous even as a pirate! (orlando bloom was gorgeous too!) Trust me, its a great movie! im sitting here after seeing it and im still smiling! see this movie!
Character intelligence is the thing! - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
With the trailer, and Disney, I was SO sure I wouldn't like this film, but it was just one amazing pleasant surprise after another! I loved it! What a wonderful thing to be completely taken by surprise by a film in a positive way. And with T3, Hulk, and god help me but I loathed it so much I can barely type it, Matrix Reloaded, well it's definitely the first positive surprise this year. Other reviews will talk about the action, acting, visuals, etc. and they're all great, so I'll just point out the one thing that I loved the most and that is so rare in Hollywood movies today: the characters are INTELLIGENT! They act according to their natures, with intelligence...seeing through each other's deceptions, trying to double and triple-cross each other, using complex strategies, and so on, and that includes the enemies, which generally are morons in Hollywood films, to allow for the "hero" to win and the Oprah crowd to drool in appreciation. And through it all, the movie somehow manages to meld action and humor in the most perfect, credible balance. I am amazed. A small note about the acting: some reviews are claiming that Depp and Rush chewed scenery, and I was cringing in advance because of it, but the truth is I didn't think they did at ALL. They both did a SPECTACULAR acting job (and I haven't normally liked Rush's work before...must have been the bad taste in my mouth from "Quills"). This is easily the best film of the summer so far, and with the track record otherwise, it may well end up being my fave of the year. A wonderful surprise.

The movie to see this summer - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
I've seen a lot of movies this summer, but nothing compares to this one. Recently movies have became either too concentrated on the plot(Reloaded), too concentrated on the special effects(T3), but this one took the cake. It was very well balanced, the acting was great, the special effects were incredible, and at the end of the movie.. everyone in the theatre applauded. Now thats a movie, and this was a 12 in the afternoon showing. I definitely suggest seeing it. I'll probably see it again this Friday.
What a great film!!!! - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
I have to admit I really had no intention of seeing htis movie but as I had free passes to the preview I figured I had nothing to lose. The film starts off light and fun and keeps a good pace throught the film. The acting was enjoyable as was Johnny Depps strange interpretation of a Pirate. The story has its own turns and works well to support a decent amount of action and humor. I would definitely reccommend this to someone to take the family. It might have a few moments where really young under 8 might be questionable but there isn't anything that couldn't be on TV. I credit Disney on taking chances in straying a bit farther from their formulaic approach.
Great summer hit! finally! - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
I sat my ass through 2 hrs and 41 mins of piratey greatness last night at my employee screening of this movie. I loved every minute of it! Great overall movie, I loved the visuals, and the acting was well above par. I have now realized why I always tend to like Johnny Depp movies...the man is an amazing actor. I'd say this is definately worth the $25 for tickets and snacks.
The summer blockbuster - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
Alright, i've been waiting for good ol' Hollywood to actually stop writing the same BORING scripts and do a movie that's actually worth seeing this summer...or really, this year. I went to a sneak peek of POTC July 8th and i was astounded by every part of it. It had everything together, great costumes, sets, action sequences, not to mention the mind blowing special effects...and of course the most talented cast that i've seen in a long time. From the opening shot of the movie you're instanlty entranced by it, hooking you for the next 2 hours. The movie's theme of being a pirate was never over done and wasn't at all corny.. "No "Args!", thank you very much. Johnny Depp gave one of his best performances to date as a charming, sneeky, yet odd pirate. His co-star Orlando Bloom was the one that you couldn't tear your eyes off of, not just because he's devastingly beautiful, but he delivered a great performance, which by the way, is obvious that he's on a rocket heading UP! The damsel in distress in the movie Keira Knightly was to say the least, a kick-butt girl that took control and made the character her own. Overall, the ENTIRE cast along with Producer, Jerry Bruckhiemer and Director, Gore Verbinski did a magnificent job in which, this seventeen year old will be seeing it another 10 times.
Johnny depp is perfect - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
I thought this movie would either be great or that all the best scenes were in the trailers on tv and the movie would not even entertain a child. Well this movie fell into the first category. It is great. The story is wonderful, the special effects are not overdone and work as part of the story, the actors are all engaging but I do have to say that Johnny Depp is 100% on target for his character. I have already told people how good this movie is and will continue to tell people. What I have also told people is that Johnny Depp is one of our best actors. I just love the way he gets into his character and becomes Capt. Jack Sparrow. And he does that with all the roles in all his movies. I think the acadamy should give Johnny Depp an oscar not for any particular role but for all his roles. He never ceases to amaze me and he does it again in this movie. Bravo, bravo, bravo Mr. Depp.
One of the best live-action disney flicks ever! - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
It was one of the best live-action Disney movies I have EVER seen! In the tradition of sword-slinging, gun-toting, canon-blasting pirates with humour that you wouldn't necessarily expect, this movie brings the ever popular ride from both Disneyland and Walt Disney World to life in the most exciting way! Go in expecting pirates, great effects, and a style akin to the Indiana Jones movies, and you will not be disappointed. Johnny Depp is hysterical (although sometimes a little difficult to understand, but for a good reason), Orlando Bloom proves he can be more than a pretty elf and wields his swords with great efficiency (and he doesn't look too shabby either), Geoffrey Rush is a wonderful adversary (grand enough to scare little children), and Kiera Knightley does the best she can with the character she is given (albeit the character itself is a little weak). Word to the wise: WAIT THROUGH THE CREDITS or you'll miss something important! Overall, I didn't mind spending $10 to see it, (and would again) and highly reccommend this movie to everyone who enjoys comedy/adventures. Don't listen to critics, listen to your fellow *normal* human being and GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!!

Summer fun - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
I really thought this would have been the perfect movie if it haden't had been so long. The fight scences between the pirates who can't die and the soldiers were just too stretched out. Other wise it provided the right amount of action/adventure, romance, and humor. The acting was truely brilliant. Johnny Depp who I have never really liked now showed me that there is more to him. Orlando Bloom pulled off another impressive proformance after his 2 lotr bows. Finally Geffory Rush is the perfect villan for this movie. This movie is also so good because Gore Verbinski knows what he is doing behind a camera. After a very good and scary movie the ring he pulls off another good movie. He makes sure to put in ties to the ride with some of the humor from the ride but never makes it too babyish. The plot is a little over the top but is the most original movie for quite a while. It is smart and fun. See this in theatres. Possibly one to own on vhs or dvd.
Jeez the critics suck... - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
who pays these guys? did they not watch the same movie I saw? Thought it was great. best non-animated film this year. Bloom was good, Knight was hot, but in a non provocative way. Rush was great and Depp was a notch above outstanding. I believe there was not enough depression in the movie to make "critic worthy". Unlike Nemo, there is no major death scene involving an emotional outbreak by a leading player. this alone takes away 1/2 to 1 star in the eyes of most critics. for shame these sexless nimrods are given ample space to promote their dribble. go see the movie folks. one thing. go at a quiet time, that is when the movie house is empty. the canned accents are sometimes make the dialouge hard to understand. IMO, its part of the movie's charm... but can be frusrating if you miss something.
A gem of swash'buckling adventure, and fun. a+ - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
Again I must say that some of the critics are way off on this one! What a great movie. For the life of me I do not know why these insatiable morons who we entrust to be enlightened, are so insensible. They need to be negative to be cleaver. They are worse than Wall Street analysts...You trust the opposite of what they say. This high-seas, fast-action pirate movie was creative, original, visually spectacular, well-written and directed, humorous, and a great deal of fun. No doubt, it will be a thrill ride at Disney World. The characters in this movie are well developed, and likable. Depp plays a great roll as an over-the-edge pirate who has been off his Prozac for quite a while. Bloom is great as a self-righteous blacksmith who can not fight the pirate blood or destiny running through his veins. Knightley not only brightens up the screen with her energy and radiance, she adds the romance that every good pirate story needs. As for Rush, his portrayal of a cursed pirate is witty and spirited. The story line of curse treasure that passes the curse on all who tries to possess it, falls right in line with the spirit and excitement of any good pirate tale. Though the story may not be original, the visual effects most certainly were. The story lends a great back-drop to some spectacular special effects that any kid and grown-up kid will find great! This move does not make much use of foul language or very graphic violence. However, there is violence, but it borders more on cartoonish than gruesome. Therefore, kids 12 and up should find this a fun and exciting summer escape. ChicagoVegas Jack
A refreshing action/adventure - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
In a summer boasting of action/adventure blockbuster films filled with special effects that, at times, become overbearing, this film moves in a refreshing direction. The story is simple, yet never tiresome and it's effects, while amazing, do not require the total suspension of belief needed for others of it's genre. The sets, costumes and props are fantastic enough to not be distracting. The acting is superbly done by some well known individuals, as well as, some fresh new faces that we will, no doubt, be seeing much of in the future. The film's lead, Johnny Depp, is hysterically funny and takes his character beyond anything you have seen before. Geoffrey Rush is in his usual outstanding from, while Orlando Bloom and Kiera Knightly are certain to become big stars. While this film's connection to the Disneyland theme park ride will induce many people to see this movie (and there are several "shout outs" in the film), I believe word of mouth will make it the surprise hit of the summer. So let me be the first to tell you: Do not miss this film!
Good movie, a bit too long, also parents beware! - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
I just saw this movie. Great acting (Depp A+), colorful customes, and the special effects are wondeful. The development of the story and the climax are adequate, yet it felt like the movie was too long. During the first 3/4 of the movie, I yawned a couple of times. Howerver, when the real action began, it was great! That's why I cannot give it a higher score on the story. Parents: The movie is good for children of, I would say, age 8 and older. I do not recommend the movie for yonger children. Children must feel comfortable with watching violence involving killings with cruelty, and vengance. Typical of pirates, of course, but not suitable for younger children, in my opinion.
Fun as not seen in hollywood in a while! - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Reviews
First, I must comment on the ignorance of many professional critics to write this off as worthy only of a B. One would think that in all of their film wisdom they would be able to realize that people aren't always out to see a movie that reaches into the dull depression of humanity. I for one thouroughly enjoyed the escape from reality this movie forced me into. I went into the theatre thinking this would be a mediocre movie filled with all the cliches that come along with pirates. But I must say that I left the theatre simply wanting more. This movie truly is pure excitement. Everyting about it rates A- quality. The story incorporates the popular ride perfectly. It's hard to believe that a movie like this can be written from nothing but a simple five minute boat tour. The ride and every part of it is represented in the movie. Aside from that miracle, the story works flawlessly as the swash-buckling, sword-wielding caper this is meant to be. It ends up having everything that anyone could ever want in a pirate movie. Sword fights, comedy, romance, intrigue, dueling ship cannons, mystery, legend, etc. To accompany the great movie script comes first rate acting. Johnny Depp was incredible and far from cliched in the most hilarious role I can say I've seen him in. Orlando Bloom delivered in his somewhat self-righteous but overly valiant and charming role. He showed that he can do more than just string together a five word sentence as displayed in the two Lord of the Ring movies and Black Hawk Down. Kiera Knightley played her role quite possibly as well as director Gore Verbinski would allow. Honestly, would we all want our damzile-in-distress to be the next G.I Jane? I think not. Her role was to throw in the shrieks and fall in love, not much else. She was exaclty what was needed for the role. Greggory Rush played the perfect ghostly pirate we've all been cravng for in a movie for quite some time now. The directing was first rate as well. Gore Verinski's directing was excellent. He seemed to bring out the child fantasies in every one, at least in my local theatre. He brought out what seemed to be exaclty what he wanted from each of his actors(including Kiera), making the movie wholely believable and as entertaining as possible. Also the special effects were incorporated into the film seemlessly. This movie is the type of fantasy the movie theatres were built for. A lot of people like to delve into the poetry of life, in fact, I'm one myself. But I consider those film. Pirates of the Carribean is a movie. A hilarious, breath-taking, and all around fun one at that. Someone please inform me when movie critics can make that distinction. Maybe when they do I'll read one of their reviews for a MOVIE as excellent as this. In my advice, don't listen to the critics on this one. Show them that we, the average film-illiterate citizen love to see movies like this. Maybe they'll come off their high-horse and realize how much fun they too had at this. I think we all owe Disney a debt of gratitude for reminding us all of our childhood pirate dreams. Hopefully we'll have more movies like this. For the time being though, see Pirates of the Carribean. It is truly the most fun we've seen come out of Hollywood in quite a while. ( The PG-13 rating is for some action-violence, some scary images, and the word B****** used once. Overall I think an eight year old could handle it just fine.)
